Résumé : Understanding conspiracy theories and fake newsFor several years, the author has devoted his research and teaching to the critical analysis of information and changes in the digital public sphere. His career, divided between academia and international journalism, has led him to take an interest in contemporary abuses of communication: disinformation, manipulation, and conspiracy theories. It is in this context that Didier Oti coined the term “infoxcomplotisme,” which refers to the intersection of fake news and conspiracy theories. Far from being insignificant, this phenomenon thrives online. But its real effects are felt offline: political tensions, symbolic and sometimes physical violence, the weakening of our democratic institutions, and factual relativism. The book explores these dynamics through a transdisciplinary and committed approach, at the crossroads of social sciences, philosophy, and practical journalism knowledge. It questions how informational disorder fuels widespread mistrust, how it reconfigures relationships with knowledge and power, and what avenues can be explored to limit its harmful effects. Didier Oti holds a PhD in Mass Communication from the University of Quebec in Montreal (1997). In 2014, he founded the Canadian Integrated Communications Group (CICG). He is a research associate at ORBICOM–UNESCO Chairs, a global network of specialists who rethink contemporary communication issues.
